Meal Plans

What Meal Plans do you offer?

We offer a variety of meal plans to meet your on campus dining needs. Check out our Meal Plan page for a full list of offerings.

What type of Meal Plan is recommended?

We have a variety of meal plans to meet your needs! Depending on your class year, where you live, and how often you are on campus, our recommendations may vary. Be sure to use our filter and sort functions to help choose your plan. If you still need help choosing a plan, give us a call at 902-494-2078 or email us food@dal.ca.

How can I purchase a Meal Plan?

You can purchase your meal plan by clicking here http://dalcard.dal.ca/dalcardonline/PurchaseMealPlan/List, or by visiting us on campus at 6230 Coburg Road; we're in the lower level of Howe Hall (facing the rear of the Killam Library).

Are Meal Plans required?

All residence students are required to purchase a residence meal plan.

What is Declining Balance?

Declining Balance dollars are accepted as payment at all on campus restaurants. They are loaded right on your Dalcard, so there is no need to carry around cash or another card! There is no minimum balance, overdraft fees, or hassles! Adding Dalcard dollars to your Dalcard account would be considered "declining balance" dollars.

How do I get Dalcard Dollars?

Dalcard dollars can be purchased by clicking here www.dal.ca/dalcard, or by visiting us on campus at any of our retail locations...our cashiers would be more than happy to put money on your Dalcard.

What if I want to change my Meal Plan?

We are unable to make any changes to residence/mandatory meal deals at the Food Services at Dalhousie Offices. Any changes made to a residence/mandatory meal deal must be made through the Residence Office at 6230 Coburg Road (Howe Hall, corner of Lemarchant and Coburg). For questions, give us a call at 902-494-2078.

What if I want a refund on my Meal Plan?

Meal Plans can be refunded for the full amount paid (less any meals or Dalcard dollars used before the refund) within 10 days of purchase. After 10 days, there will be a $100 administration fee to refund your plan. Note that there are no refunds after 30 days from purchase date.

Can I have more than one meal plan at a time?

No, unfortunately you cannot. Also, please note that if you purchase a Block Plan (for off-campus students), you must use *all* the meals programmed on your card before purchasing another Block Plan. Any new plans purchased will override the existing plans (or meals remaining) on your Dalcard, and you will lose any remaining meals.

Can I carry meals over to the next semester?

No, all meals expire at the end of the semester. The exception to this rule is if you purchased a voluntary (off-campus) "Block" meal plan such as the 75, 125, 175. These Block Plans can be used over both Fall and Winter.

Can I treat a friend to a meal?

To keep our meal plans reasonably priced, meals are reserved for the meal plan holder only. However, you can always treat a friend using Declining Balance dollars. Also, if you have a Block meal plan (the 75, 125, 175), you can use your swipes to get your friends through the door at any time.

What do I do when my Declining Balance gets low?

You can reload your Declining Balance at any time! Declining Balance can be purchased by clicking here www.dal.ca/dalcard, or by visiting us on campus at any of our 14 retail food locations.
