Cool Foods
Coolfood meals have a lower carbon footprint, meeting the level of food related emissions the World Resource Institute's research say we need meals to have by 2030.

Coolfood are meals that are not only good for your health, but also good for the planet. As part of Dalhousie's commitment to sustainability and climate action, we've partnered with the Cool Foods, a global initiative that helps institutions like ours, serve more low carbon food. These meals are designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions while still being delicious, satisfying, and loved by students. Look for the Coolfood logo in the dining halls to identify dishes that are climate friendly based on ingredients, sourcing, and production.

By choosing Cool Food meals, you're making a simple decision that supports climate action, no extra effort required.

Why it matters:

  • More plant-based foods = lower carbon footprint.
  • Sustainable protein choices = healthier oceans and ecosystems.

Marine Stewardship Council
At Dalhousie, we're proud that our kitchens are Marine Stewardship Council (MSC)-certified as part of our commitment to healthy oceans and responsible sourcing. When you see the MSC blue fish label, it means that seafood has been:

  • Responsibly harvested from well-managed, wild fisheries
  • Caught using methods that protect marine ecosystems
  • Fully traceable from ocean to plate

By choosing certified seafood:

  • You help reduce overfishing and protect marine life
  • You support fisheries that follow science-based sustainability standards
  • You contribute to a global effort to preserve ocean biodiversity for future generations

MSC certified products are featured in our recipes, from fish burgers to baked haddock. It's one more way you can make a positive impact... simply by enjoying your meal
